It’s Adminstrative Professionals Day, So Answer Your Own Phone!
April 21, 2010 in Uncategorized

You know that person that answers the phone, keeps the Office in check, makes sure that you get paid, and does all the organizational duties that keep things running? Yes, that person is the Administrative Professional, and though at times is underappreciated, he/she is vital to how an Office performs.
Today is Adminstrative Professionals Day, and it is the day where you can show the Admin in your life that he/she is an amazing asset to your team. And with the recent Economic downturn and layoffs, these Adminstrative Professionals have had to take on a larger and more complex workload that before and they definitely need a little extra appreciation. The International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) reports that “Not only are the admins in the office taking on more work during the downturn, but also shoulder more complex duties and responsibilities.”
I used to work in the role of an Admin myself, and can attest to the fact that I had to deal with things as menial as distributing Employee codes to doing budget analysis, Project management and marketing outreach. IAAP President Barb Horton agrees with the changing nature of the role of the Adminstrative Professional, saying, ” Administrative professionals are no longer simply answering phones and handling correspondence. Admins of today are buying software, learning how to use it and training the management.”
So the next time that you see an Admin in your office looking a bit overloaded and stressed, why not offer to help out or get him/her a coffee? You may get your paycheck earlier than usual. Just saying.
