Sometimes you just want to know the simplest, cheap beauty tips. Simple is best. So is not spending ridiculous amounts money on looking your best. Here are some rules that I’ve learned from friends, makeup artists, and through the grapevine.
10. Toilet paper covers make for great blotting sheets. In an emergency, definitely use this as you don’t want your forehead to be mistaken for an oil slick.
8. Fancy shampoos are overrated. The best clarifying and conditioning shampoos can all be found at your local drugstore, usually for under six bucks.
7. Sleep really is the best beauty remedy there is. The only problem is finding the time on our busy schedules!
6. Don’t drink/smoke excessively.
5. Eat your fruits and veggies. No need to spend money on strange herbs that promise you a bunch of things. What comes from the earth is best for your skin.
4. Smile and have fun when you can. Having a positive outlook can do wonders for your inner and outer beauty.
3. Lipstick/lipgloss can light up your entire face, so splurging on this is okay. A girl’s gotta live, you know.
2. Drink loads of water instead of diet soda. It’ll hydrate and moisturize your skin. Pronto.
1. Treat yourself- The most gorgeous people I know are that way because they’re happy with who they are and they take care of themselves. Beauty really is only skin deep. If you’re happy with who you are, then it’ll shine through.
So, Wow…first just wanted to let you guys know that I’ve been made editor of Twirlit, that Women’s fashion/beauty/lifestyle blog that I’ve been blogging so much about lately. I’m so excited to be working with Sean again, along with Aysha Manori, our Photo Editor/Creative Director and Tsega Dinka, Senior Web Designer and DP/Shooter.
Our Creative team over at Tsavo has been working really hard to make the sites we work on from Twirlit to Kidglue to Manolith, look good, have great content, and of course provide value for our readers. They’re all amazing, fab, and I couldn’t have done all this without them. Literally.
We really appreciate all the support and thanks Sean for the intro. I’ve worked with Sean for a while now and he’s basically been the one to teach me about blogs, html, and basically every single annoying question there is. THANK YOU FOR PUTTING UP WITH MY QUESTIONS!!! LOL.
Don’t worry…I’m still pursuing my other goals, but this is probably the best day job I’ve ever had. I’m super excited to be working with new writers and working with our Creative team to carve out a unique voice for our site.
It’s really late as I blog right now and its really hot here in LA. The weather has been so strange lately, as a few days ago, I felt as though I was in Philly as it was ridiculously cold. (okay, maybe not THAT cold, but I do believe that your blood thins out when you move out West) Anyway, we started a video series for Twirlit, that will focus on fashion/beauty tips and also will feature people who will be able to hopefully provide you with useful/Entertaining content.
Our first shoot was with Verabella Salon in Beverly Hills, and that will be blogged later as the video for that shoot posts this week on the site and on my blog. (Of course!)
So…today, Sean Percival (content mgr at Tsavo and Master of SEO) and I were at Fairfax Flea Market to find a few examples of how Los Angelenos put together their style, even amidst this recesssion.
This is me pretending to be Kanye West with his plastic rimmed glasses. I definitely need to get a new pose. Any suggestions?
Here’s Sir Percival himself. We used to cause trouble when we worked together back in the day…haha. I also forced him to make this peace sign.
This band played a good set, providing background music at the flea market.
And… many deals were to be had. Recession Special example #1.
This shoot was really fun and we ended up meeting some interesting style subjects including a Pop star from Sweden. No joke. Keep a look out for an upcoming video post and more cool stuff from the Twirlit/girlatastartup Video series!
So, on Twirlit, I get to blog about fashion, beauty and pop culture which is entertaining for me. And hopefully for my readers! Anyway, I just wanted to post my Twirlit posts of the day so feel free to check out the site and comment on my posts! Thanks
TOP 5 REASONS TO DITCH THE BAD BOYS- I’ve dated a few of them, and here’s what I’ve learned. Granted, I don’t know everything and you’re more than welcome to toss aside this advice but this is what I’ve found to be true.
GOSSIP GIRLS GRACE ROLLING STONE- I love this show about privileged teenagers on the Upper East Side of New York City. It’s probably because their high school lives are so far removed from my own that it’s pure escapism. Plus, I think Chuck is a genius character…his scowl and sarcastic comments make me laugh each time I watch.
ERIN OF THE CITY REVEALS HERSELF- Erin Lucas of “The City,” is Whitney Port’s best friend and is the example of the “I’m a 20-something so I need to find myself,” stage in your life. She’s lucky that she’s the daughter of an AC/DC bassist and has a sick downtown pad. AH!
LADY GAGA…THE NEW PRINCESS OF POP?- Lady Gaga is a pretty interesting performer. With platinum blonde hair, a throaty voice, and two SICK dance songs including “Just Dance,” and “Polker Face,” I like to blast her songs when I’m on the freeway. Fab.
HOW TO HAVE HEALTHY HAIR- I’m a huge fan of taking care of my health. It’s the one thing you can do everyday to feel/look better, which shows up in your skin and hair. Here are some tips on how to have healthy hair.
And… I don’t know how to play polker. (I should learn at some point) But because of Lady Gaga, I now know how to have a Polker face.
My name is Kathrien Ahn (yes, this is the correct spelling of my name) and I started this blog because I was the only female working at this tech start-up and needed a creative outlet. I'm a Content Producer for MySpace Celebrity, former Editor of Twirlit and writer for Manolith. Glad you stopped by the blog, and hope that it provides you with some laughs, inspiration or amusement. I am OBSESSED with music. Old skool hip-hop/R&B are bomb and I think Snobs/people with big egos are uber annoying. Ya heard? (I try to avoid them as much as possible)
