I wrote this manifesto when I was feeling particularly stuck, uncreative and facing the wall of disappointment and rejection. Hope that this story gives you some laughs, inspiration, or a new perspective on an old situation. And a BIG/HUGE Shout out and thanks to Dylan at ChangeThis for all if your editing and of course everyone who voted for this proposal to be made into a manifesto. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Being a creative soul, there are times when you feel that no one understands your point of view and how you see the world. The best part about writing is that you can showcase your voice and that’s something that no amount of negativity or rejection or disappointment can take away from you. So if you have a big idea or goal, just go for it. Seriously.
I shot this random video in Santa Monica a few months back. This dude originally wanted me to pay him, and I was like..um…no. He eventually agreed and asked him all these questions about him and his snake that he walks around with. SCARY! There are a few things in the world that freak me out. 1) Hair in clogs/drains. Frightening and gross. And scary
2) Horror Films. I have a crazy imagination and can’t go near any type of horror film or I’ll start screaming
3) Snakes.
Check out the vid:
An Actual Audition Post (No, I wasn’t auditioning for this project…I swear!) How funny is this?
On a recent audition, I had to wait for a bit before I went in for the actual read and thought it would be funny to post an audition survival kit. If you’re an actor, you can probably relate, as you should always bring things to keep your mind focused before you go into “THE ROOM.“ haha… ominous, right?
You need gum. It keeps your mouth busy esp. if you’re ADD like me. I’m currently obsessed with this new gum from Orbit.
You need Music. Whenever I audition for a drama versus a comedic project, I ALWAYS need my ipod to listen to various old hip-hop songs or Mozart. I don’t know what it is about Mozart that just gets to my core. I love it. I don’t think I could live without my Ipod shuffle. WORD.
The Script. I always have a script in my car whether its a TV or feature project, and the sides of course. Sides are pages from scripts that are given to you via your agent/manager, and usually just have tidbits on it so you can come up with your own character before you audition. Having scripts around keep you on your toes.
Makeup- For auditions, you usually need to wear makeup which is annoying as I’m not a huge makeup wearer in daily life. I’m too lazy.
I usually bring some sort of snack or something too, but I had inhaled it before posting. Sorry! I’m currently obsessed with Luna Bars, especially the Peanut Butter Cookie flavor. OMG. So good.
Uh, not me folks. I’m talking about Right Said Fred. On a recent karaoke excursion, I saw this dude perform this fantastic song as he rocked out the stage. OMG! There are no words to describe how funny it was. Gotta love karaoke. But you guys know I’m obsessed by now.
Oh yeah, and didn’t you know…“He’s too sexy for his hat…too sexy for his hat…Whatchu think about that?” (Quite possibly the best lyric ever!)
Yesterday’s episode of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show.” I usually need my Daily show fix on a daily basis. haha… I love all the rules that you have to abide by when meeting the Queen of England. What happens if you break one of the rules? Do one of those Buckingham Palace guards come out and attack you with tea and krumpets?
I love youtube. Videos. Music. Anything Random. I don’t have a middle name, but if I did, it would be RANDOM. Anyway, I wanted to post some of my favorite videos from the girlatastartup youtube channel. When the people over at Flip Video sent me a Mino, I was beyond ecstatic because I used to be scared of technology and hated anything related to it. Now, I’m obsessed. haha. The cool part is that I have so many ideas of different people to interview, places to go, and random things to tape. I think humor/comedy work best when we can all relate to it, you know? So…
This is the video that started it all. I look like a cheesy weirdo in this video, but you know…you can obviously see the passion I have for singing and karaoke.
Sir Percival first introduced me to the Flip when we used to work together. He is ONE FUNNY DUDE and he’s like all big time now, but we used to have skype fights. LOVE IT! (I’m not a bimbo though I sound like one in this video)
I ran the Nike Human Race 5K last year, and talked to the USC Dragon Bow Team (still don’t know what this is). Aren’t they cute?
This is Detective Callum and Officer Dodson who were really hilarious. They were like, “Why is this random Asian girl coming up to us?” OMG. Forgive my laughter… it sounds awful. LOL.
Josh and Amar. They’re the security guys.
Boy talk with Sean the Bartender in NYC. He believes in the 2 day rule and filled us in on guys’ views on dating.
There will be more videos to come!! Better quality too.
I get my share of random and odd e-mails, where people will ask me about how to make a certain recipe or if I can help them find their high school sweetheart. (Uh… random) Or guys will e-mail me inappropriate comments, which are usually gross, but 8 times out of 10, make me laugh.
Usually this is my response:
“Great to hear from you, but I only talk about documents. Anything related to documents.”
This is today’s random e-mail.
This document was written by my co-worker Juan Aguilar/Son of a fish/Hilarious dude. It was posted a while ago, but I think it’s absolutely hilarious. Enjoy!
And here is Dudi who handles our content and dressed like a pimp for Halloween (seriously. Love it), Serena, head of Marketing, and Juan who also handles our content and writes ridiculously funny stuff like this.
My name is Kathrien Ahn (yes, this is the correct spelling of my name) and I started this blog because I was the only female working at this tech start-up and needed a creative outlet. I'm a Content Producer for MySpace Celebrity, former Editor of Twirlit and writer for Manolith. Glad you stopped by the blog, and hope that it provides you with some laughs, inspiration or amusement. I am OBSESSED with music. Old skool hip-hop/R&B are bomb and I think Snobs/people with big egos are uber annoying. Ya heard? (I try to avoid them as much as possible)
