The Benihana Waitresses…Together Again

Acting, comedy

Yeah, um…how random is this? At a recent audition, I saw Kulap V, a funny Asian chick that I acted with on the ‘Benihana Christmas’ episode of ‘The Office.’ We had a lot of fun on set during the taping of that episode and we both talked about the inevitable question that the both of us are asked constantly, “Are you the unmarked or marked Benihana Waitress?”

I think we should go back to Dunder Mifflin. :)

Uh…I’m the New Editor of Twirlit.Com

Twirlit

Hey guys,

kat-with-fork
So, Wow…first just wanted to let you guys know that I’ve been made editor of Twirlit, that Women’s fashion/beauty/lifestyle blog that I’ve been blogging so much about lately. I’m so excited to be working with Sean again, along with Aysha Manori, our Photo Editor/Creative Director and Tsega Dinka, Senior Web Designer and DP/Shooter.

Our Creative team over at Tsavo has been working really hard to make the sites we work on from Twirlit to Kidglue to Manolith,  look good, have great content, and of course provide value for our readers.  They’re all amazing, fab, and I couldn’t have done all this without them. Literally.

We really appreciate all the support and thanks Sean for the intro. I’ve worked with Sean for a while now and he’s basically been the one to teach me about blogs, html, and basically every single annoying question there is. THANK YOU FOR PUTTING UP WITH MY QUESTIONS!!! LOL.

Don’t worry…I’m still pursuing my other goals, but this is probably the best day job I’ve ever had. I’m super excited to be working with new writers and working with our Creative team to carve out a unique voice for our site.

Peace out,
Kat :)

Asian Girl Rapping Forgot About Dre by Dr. Dre and Eminem

Hip hop

Hey party peoples. So… I’ve talked/written about this before, but I love music and hip-hop. Nothing can help me escape life’s realities like listening to a sick playlist or singing/rapping, of course.
Here’s me rapping “Forgot About Dre,” by Dr. Dre and Eminem. (I purposely dress as goody two shoes as possible and then perform, to increase the “What the …..” factor)
Note: I showed my Dad this video and this is what he said
MY DAD: Do you have mental problem?
LOL!!!!

Twirlit Fashion Video Shoot at Fairfax Flea Market

Twirlit

It’s really late as I blog right now and its really hot here in LA. The weather has been so strange lately, as a few days ago, I felt as though I was in Philly as it was ridiculously cold. (okay, maybe not THAT cold, but I do believe that your blood thins out when you move out West) Anyway, we started a video series for Twirlit, that will focus on fashion/beauty tips and also will feature people who will be able to hopefully provide you with useful/Entertaining content.

Our first shoot was with Verabella Salon in Beverly Hills, and that will be blogged later as the video for that shoot posts this week on the site and on my blog. (Of course!) :)

So…today, Sean Percival (content mgr at Tsavo and Master of SEO) and I were at Fairfax Flea Market to find a few examples of how Los Angelenos put together their style, even amidst this recesssion.

This is me pretending to be Kanye West with his plastic rimmed glasses. I definitely need to get a new pose. Any suggestions?

Here’s Sir Percival himself. We used to cause trouble when we worked together back in the day…haha. I also forced him to make this peace sign.

This band played a good set, providing background music at the flea market.

And… many deals were to be had. Recession Special example #1.

This shoot was really fun and we ended up meeting some interesting style subjects including a Pop star from Sweden. No joke. Keep a look out for an upcoming video post and more cool stuff from the Twirlit/girlatastartup Video series!

Peace out. I need some sleep.

Girls Meet Up at The Standard on Sunset

girls in tech

Just a quick post of us Girls at the Standard on Sunset last night for our monthly Girls in Tech meeting. Laurel Kaufman and Sarah Townsend were present, but weren’t in the picture. Note to self: Get better camera to take pictures for next meeting. Also it was $15 bucks for valet!!! Annoying…okay, moving on. :)

The funniest part was that every time Robyn would make an important point, the music would get louder, or one of the performance artists would start shouting. It was truly a hilarious scene. Good seeing all of you girls! Should be a good year.
Me, Shira Lazar (Everyone in Tech knows her), Robyn Cohen, the Executive Managing director of the LA Chapter of Girls in Tech, Christine Kirk of Murphy O’Brien PR, and Lauren Berger of Intern Queen

Meet Mark…My Writing Partner

hollywood

Meet Mark, Bad-ass and also my Writing Partner. Here’s his bio..yeah, um, he wrote it in the 3rd person.

Hailing from what you earthlings would recognize as 2404 A.D., Mark Charran arrived in Los Angeles 4 years ago with one thing on his mind; Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles. After conquering this goal, he quickly turned his sights on the acting and writing field, as everyone knows succeeding in this area is extremely easy. He has Guest-Stared on shows like “Gilmore Girls” and shot a pilot for comedy central called “Dollar Theater”, and has also developed a pilot for T.V. which is currently being shopped. While out patrolling the city dressed as Robin, Mark was assaulted by an angry gang of Trekkies. Feeling sorry for his plight, a brave woman named Kathrien Ahn stepped in and rescued Mark. Mark is charged (ordered) to help her develop an absolutely amazing screenplay. He’d like to thank ESPN for always keeping him distracted, and internet #$@%!.

My Brother’s Performance and A Night Out in J-Town

Music

I’ve only been to J-town a few times, but this past Wednesday, I went to support my brother, an MC and Music Supervisor for Bunim Murray Productions. They produce these shows that you might have heard of… “Real World,” and “Road Rules.”

He performed at 2nd Street Jazz Bar and Grill. But before they started the set, I wandered around the area and came across this cool skater/hip hop store called, “Fish Mart.” Check out the pics:

And here’s me, waiting for my bro to perform:

Me and my bro:

And my friends, J-Kwon and Sonya

My brother did a good job. I’m not just saying that because he’s my brother, but his delivery was on point. Music and art are not exactly the most sought-after occupations in Asian/Asian-American culture. Usually, your parents want you to be doctors, lawyers, investment bankers, anything with the word “Finance” in it. So, when you decide to take a chance to do something out-of-the-box, it’s a risky proposition. Then again, nothing in life is concrete.
